The Zimbabwe government has said that the death of a woman who had been returned from China and referred to Wilkins Hospital, an institution designated for infectious diseases, had nothing to do with the novel coronavirus.
The woman reportedly died on her way to the hospital. Posting on Twitter, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services said:
The woman, a Chinese national, was on Saturday referred to Wilkins from the West End Clinic but died before arrival.
Some say that the fact that Zimbabwe is demanding authentic certificates from visitors who are coming from coronavirus affected countries means that the country is not equipped to conduct tests.
The virus is rapidly spreading all around the world with reports suggesting that as of Saturday, 105 593 cases had been confirmed globally and 29 in Africa. 3,562 people had died globally and of that number, 3,070 deaths were recorded in China alone.
Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Morroco, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Togo and Tunisia are the African countries that have confirmed coronavirus cases.
