Govt Increases Food Distribution In Urban Areas – Report

The government has increased food distribution in urban areas Sunday News reports. The program spearheaded by Labour and social welfare Minister Sekesai Nzenza is aimed at making sure people in urban areas who are food secure also get something to eat.

According to the publication:

Dr Nzenza told our Harare Bureau that the programme was targeting a total of 25 237 beneficiary households collectively, disaggregated as 12 968 and 12 269 beneficiaries in Bulawayo and Harare, respectively. Priority, she added, is being given to high-density suburbs that have a “high concentration of poverty” according to the country’s poverty map. Government childcare workers are identifying vulnerable children from vulnerable households in schools.

Millions of Zimbabweans both in urban and rural areas are in need of food aid due to the drought and the turbulent economic situation currently being experienced in Zimbabwe.
