A consultant radiologist, Byanyima, replaces Dr Doreen Birabwa-Male who retired in November 2019.

According to a May 6 letter, addressed to the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Public Service, President Museveni appointed Byanyima with effect from the date of assumption of duty.

The letter seen by New Vision, and signed by Dr Mary Theopista Wenene, the permanent secretary of the Health Service Commission, is copied to the head of public service and secretary to the cabinet, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health and the executive director, Mulago National Referral Hospital.

Byanyima brings a wealth of experience in management having served as the Mulago hospital clinical head of the diagnostics for nine years between 2009 and 2018.

She was also head of radiology department at the same facility from 2008 to 2009.

Byanyima has an executive master’s degree in business administration from Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI) which gives her a niche in management.

Bynayima has been a health worker for 29 years, with 27 spent at Mulago.

Speaking to KnowAfrika, Byanyima said she is happy for the trust put in her and promises continued service above self.

“I’m happy about the appointment and ready to continue serving as I have always done,” Byanyima says.

“I have been a middle level manager and very familiar of what is going on at Mulago so I will easily get along with my team which I have worked with for a long time,” she says.

As a deputy executive director, Byanyima is charged with clinical works of the hospital; responsible to make sure theaters are working, drugs ara available, patients are getting the care they deserve among others.
