Danish club Viborg are suing fake footballer Bernio Verhagen after signing him, according to a report.
The 25-year-old Dutchman signed for the Danish second-tier side in October ostensibly from Chilean side Audax Italiano but, however, it is not certain that he ever played for that club, or others that he had claimed to.
Verhagen was pulled from the field after his first training session at Viborg due to the low level of his football skills, the club said in a statement.
“There is a clear picture of a large scam that is likely to involve more people in several countries,” Viborg said.
Danish police confirmed that Viborg had made a criminal complaint alleging fraud, document forgery and identity theft but said no formal charges had been put forward yet.
Verhagen was also believed to have played for Dinamo-Auto of Moldova. But head coach at Dinamo-Auto, Igor Dobrovolsky, reportedly has not heard of him, while South African club, Cape Town City, whose owner John Comitis, denies ever offering Verhagen a contract, as presumed.
