Kenya has returned to the prestigious World Rally Championship (WRC) after 18 years.

President Uhuru Kenyatta welcomed the decision by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) to allow the East African country back into the global contest.

He said Kenya’s Safari Rally, first held in 1953, developed “to become the toughest rally in the world and was regarded as a true test of man and machine”.

It makes its comeback for the WRC on 19 July 2020 – to become one of its 14 events.
