France stated Wednesday that it will temporarily increase its army presence in the Eastern Mediterranean in the coming days. 

President Emmanuel Macron and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis mentioned the latest state of affairs in the region, Macron’s workplace said in a statement. 

Underlining the significance of settling disputes via dialogue, Macron drew attention to the need for “greater consultation” between Greece and Turkey and welcomed a mediation initiative by using Germany. 

He has also determined “to quickly enhance the French army presence in the eastern Mediterranean in the coming days,” in cooperation with France’s European Union partners, said the statement.

But after declaring the deal “null and void,” Turkey licensed the Oruc Reis to proceed its activities in an area that is inside Turkey’s continental shelf.
