afcon 2023 africa cup of nations 2023 kicks off with intense competition
The Africa Cup of Nations 2023, also called AFCON 2023, is happening in Côte d’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11. It’s a big football event in Africa. Senegal won the last time, and now teams are competing again.
The games have started with some surprises. Ivory Coast won against Guinea-Bissau, and Nigeria tied with Equatorial Guinea. Egypt, led by famous player Mohamed Salah, managed a late tie with Mozambique. Cape Verde surprised everyone by beating Ghana.
There are six groups with four teams each. The best teams from these groups will move to the next round, called the Round of 16. Teams from all over Africa, like Morocco, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Algeria, and Nigeria, are playing hard to win.
In Group A, Ivory Coast is leading now. They beat Guinea-Bissau. Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea have the same points because they tied their game.
In Group B, Cape Verde is on top because they beat Ghana. Egypt and Mozambique are equal because they tied their match.
Group C has Senegal, Cameroon, Guinea, and Gambia. They haven’t played yet, so all have the same points for now.
Group D also hasn’t seen any games yet, so Algeria, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, and Angola are all starting equally.
In Group E, Tunisia, Mali, South Africa, and Namibia are ready to play, but no games have happened yet.
Finally, in Group F, Morocco, DR Congo, Zambia, and Tanzania are set to play, but like the others, no games have occurred yet.
The knockout stage of ‘The Africa Cup of Nations 2023’ will start on January 27, where teams will compete in a direct elimination format. The final game will be on February 11.
People can watch these ‘AFCON 2023’ games live on Sky Sports. They can also stream it online through the Sky Go app. There are live blogs for updates too.
This tournament was delayed from last summer because of the rainy season in West Africa. Now, it’s all about exciting football, with teams trying their best to win this big African football prize.
