AFCON: Cameroon start title defence with a win

The Indomitable Lion Cameroon started their title defence with a 2-0 win over Guinea Bissau on Tuesday at the Ismailia Stadium in Egypt. Yaya Banana and substitute Stephane Bahoken scored both goals for Clarence Seedorf’s men as they began their title defence on winning note. It was Cameroon that made the first attack following Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa cross into the box but the Guinea Bissau defenders were alert to deal with the possible challenge. Guinea Bissau attacker Pele created some space for himself and unleashed a shot from outside the box but his effort went over the bar in the 12th minute of the clash. Christian Bassongog found a way to beat the Guinea Bissau defence but he was unlucky and he was unfortunate again in the 32nd minute after he picked up a pass from his teammate and he powered the ball to the sky. The first half ended goalless but Cameroon was the dominant side as usual. The second half saw Cameroon bulldozing their way through the defence but the Guinea Bissau defenders remained solid at the back.

Guinea Bissau Rudinilson was awarded yellow card for a challenge on Cameroon player and in the 67th minute, Yaya Banana met a corner with a powerful header to put the ball in the net. Clarence Seedorf Cameroon coach made the first substitution as Stephane Bahoken replaced Arnaud Djoum in the 69th minute, with just less than two minutes on the pitch Bahoken fires in a shot to double the lead for the defending Champions. Guinea Bissau made their first substitution as Toni Silva was substituted for Mama Blade in the 71st minute of the clash.

Seedorf made the second change for his team, he withdrew Karl Toko Ekambi and Clinton N’ Jie was thrown in for tactical reasons. Guinea Bissau coach Baciro Cande made another change in a bid to adjust his team tactics he withdrew Piqueti and Jorge Intima was given the green light to go in. The indomitable made their final substitute as Maxim Choupo-Moting was taken off for Olivier Boumal. Cande also reacted by bringing in Joseph Mendes as a substitute for Frederic Mendy. Boumal was shown a yellow card for a nasty challenge with five minutes to end the game. The game ended 2-0 in favour of the defending Champions Cameroon. Up next for Seedorf’s men is the game against Ghana on Saturday while Guinea Bissau will face Benin Republic on the same day.
