The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) has condemned the army mutiny currently underway in Mali, saying it rejects any attempt at an unconstitutional alternate of government.
“The Pan-African Parliament strongly condemns the arrest of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and Prime Minister Boubou Cisse through mutinying soldiers and demands their on the spot release,” the continental parliament stated in a announcement late Tuesday.
According to local media reports, the ongoing coup strive in the West African country started out after disgruntled junior army officers detained their commanders and took control of the Kati navy camp placed 15 kilometers (9 miles) northwest of the capital Bamako.
Keita and Cisse had been reportedly taken to the camp round 4.30 p.m. neighborhood time (1630 GMT), in accordance to local ebook Le Journal du Mali.
