African Parliament condemns Mali ‘s military mutiny

The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) has condemned the army mutiny currently underway in Mali, saying it rejects any attempt at an unconstitutional alternate of government.

   “The Pan-African Parliament strongly condemns the arrest of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and Prime Minister Boubou Cisse through mutinying soldiers and demands their on the spot release,” the continental parliament stated in a announcement late Tuesday. 

According to local media reports, the ongoing coup strive in the West African country started out after disgruntled junior army officers detained their commanders and took control of the Kati navy camp placed 15 kilometers (9 miles) northwest of the capital Bamako. 

Keita and Cisse had been reportedly taken to the camp round 4.30 p.m. neighborhood time (1630 GMT), in accordance to local ebook Le Journal du Mali. 

Mali has been rocked through protests for quite a few months as demonstrators name for the resignation of President Keita. 

The PAP advised the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the international neighborhood to lead collaborative efforts in enticing with all stakeholders in the Malian political crisis in a bid to repair peace, protection and steadiness in the country. 

Headquartered in Johannesburg, the PAP said it stands in team spirit with the human beings of Mali and calls for calm and restraint throughout this quintessential time. 

It used to be mounted in 2004 as a legislative organ of the African Union aimed at making sure full participation of the peoples of Africa and their grassroots corporations in governance and financial integration.

  Each African Union member contributes five individuals of parliament to the continental parliament, which holds two plenary classes in May and October.
