African Union Convenues in Ghana to Boost Global Stance and hasten Integration

On Sunday, the African Union met in Ghana to decide on a united posture before interacting with the G20 and the United Nations and to handle urgent problems regarding African integration. The conference sought to improve group decision-making, hasten economic integration, and solve problems with regional stability.

Mohamed Cheikh Ghazouani, President of Mauritania and present African Union Chair, underlined the need of accelerating the pace of African unity. To help the continent and realize the dreams of African people, he underlined the need of quickening economic integration.

Meeting discussions focused on financing African Union programs, especially the organization’s own, which mostly depends on donations from non-African partners. A major emphasis was on the requirement of sustainable and self-reliant financing sources; participants looked at several approaches to reach financial freedom.

Moussa Faki Mahamat, the chairperson of the African Union Commission, underlined the need of members presenting a united front in forthcoming activities with foreign partners. Speaking with one voice at important worldwide events, including the G20 where the African Union now has membership, he underlined the need of this. “A consistent posture will help us to be more influential worldwide,” Mahamat said.

The conference also covered current regional unrest in West Africa, especially in Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso members of ECOWAS.
