The push toward renewable energy in Africa helps the 570 million people who currently live without reliable power access. Many African people remain without electricity since developed countries take power usage as a basic standard while the device helps power healthcare systems plus education and business growth.
More countries across Africa are switching to renewable energy systems because they produce new power while gas and coal continue to power some homes. Ghana has achieved high progress as 85% of its people now use hydropower and thermal energy for electricity. The country will need these power enhancements to meet its rising electricity requirements over 2025-26.
Most of the energy sector needs additional financial backing to grow. The International Renewable Energy Agency reports that Africa obtains less than 2% of renewable energy investments worldwide. Seth Agbeve Mahu highlights Ghana’s need for private capital investment because no one will invest unless they have assurance of profit. Private investors fund investments wherever they encounter little opposition. USAID’s dismantling creates new problems for its previous electricity goal of connecting 60 million people to power networks. Despite current initiatives, 1.2 billion human beings will continue to lack power by 2030 according to the forecast.
