Akani Simbine Overtakes Fred Kerley In 2023 Diamond League Men’s 100m

In the Diamond League standings for men’s 100-meter race, Akani Simbine from South Africa has taken the lead after winning the Silesia Diamond League on July 16. He narrowly defeated Fred Kerley, the reigning World 100-meter champion, with a photo-finish, finishing in 9.97 seconds.

With this victory, Simbine secured his second successive win this year, having previously won the meet in Stockholm. 

His cumulative results in various events helped him accumulate 28 points, making him the current leader in the Diamond League standings. 

Fred Kerley’s second-place finish in the Silesia race moved him to second place in the standings, and Ferdinand Omanyala, Africa’s fastest man, dropped to third.

Ferdinand Omanyala from Kenya had two second-place finishes and a third-place finish in the three events he participated in this year. He will compete again in Monaco on Friday before preparing for the World Athletics Championships.

In the women’s 800-meter race, Mary Moraa from Kenya won her third 800m race at the Silesia Diamond League, clocking 1:56.85.
