Andre Coley, a former Jamaican first-class cricketer, has been named as the Interim Head Coach of the West Indies Men’s team for the upcoming tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa.
The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Board of Directors announced the decision on Thursday. The CWI said that the former Jamaican cricketer would oversee the two-Test tour of the Zimbabwe cricket team from 28 January to 16 February 2023. He would also handle the multi-format tour of South Africa. He would oversee two Tests tours, three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20 Internationals (T20Is) of the South African team from 21 February to 28 March.
Coley took this opportunity after Phil Simmons stepped down from his role. Coley expressed his happiness and said that it would be an honour for him to oversee Zimbabwe and South Africa tours.
Legendary Jamaican cricketer recently also assisted the Jamaica Tallawahs in winning the Caribbean Premier League. Coley is also the head coach of the CWI Academy programme. Coley reportedly said, “I am enthusiastic about the opportunities that both series offer and ready to contribute to our team’s success.”
Cricket West Indies Director of Cricket Jimmy Adams also expressed and praised Coley’s talent. He reportedly said, “We welcome Andre back to the West Indies.” He said that Coley has vast experience in cricket. He further said that Coley’s talent earned him great respect.
