Bomet medics quarantined after contacting alleged Covid-19 patient

At least ten medics have been quarantined after coming into contact with a patient who died showing with Covid-19 symptoms in Bomet.

Bomet Medicals Services and Public Health CEC Joseph Sitonik said the patient died while undergoing treatment at the Longisa County Hospital ICU.

Sitonik said the patient presented herself at the facility claiming she had a heart condition.

The CEC said the patient died suddenly while undergoing treatment.

Medics at the facility reported that she experienced breathing difficulties and high fever.

We took samples in Kisii for testing and quarantined all medicines that came into contact with her after she showed symptoms of Covid-19, “Sitonik said.

Nevertheless, the CEC called for calm saying that there was no reason for concern, since the tests were yet to determine that the patient were contracted the coronavirus.

At the same time, Sitonik said the supervisory team had been dispatched to the patient’s rural home to collect her background and track other contacts.

“Our Covid-19 surveillance team is also on the ground trying to find out whether the woman had received visitors traveling from hotspots or traveling past,” Sitonik said.

The incident occurred as police hunted for 24 suspects allegedly sneaked into Nairobi county

County Commissioner Geoffrey Omondi said they were being tracked by the surveillance team as police launch inquiries into how they made their way into the county.
