Chad have been eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers

Chad were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Monday because the government disbanded the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has excluded Chad from the Africa Cup of Nations. Chad host Namibia on Wednesday and play Mali on Sunday. The club have already missed out on qualifying for the finals in Cameroon in January and February.

The CAF decision is the first of its kind under his new leadership. Secretary-General VeronMosengo-Omba has left FIFA to run the Cairo-based governing body after South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe was elected CAF president on March 12.

Motsepe’s new leader was elected unopposed as part of a deal brokered by FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

FIFA can now ban Chad from world football. FIFA rules allow member associations to be suspended when governments are believed to have interfered with the independence of elected football officials.

Football governing bodies have strict rules that penalize the political involvement of the national football federation.

“Following the suspension by the Chadian Ministry of Youth and Sports, Caf has decided to exclude the Chadian national team from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers,” a statement from Caf said.
