The 41st Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) will honour Italian cinematographer Vittorio Storaro during its closing ceremony Friday at the Cairo Opera House.
The winner of three Oscars, for Apocalypse Now (1979), Reds (1981) and The Last Emperor (1987), participated in a closed panel discussion with cinematographers attending the festival at El-Hanager Theatre Thursday afternoon, headed by Egyptian DOP Islam Abdel-Samei.
One of world’s most renowned cinematographers, Storaro born on 24 June 1940 in Rome. He has won over 50 different awards from across the globe throughout his six decades of filmmaking, collaborating with many legendary filmmakers in tens of films.
Under helm of producer Mohamed Hefzy, the current edition of CIFF is named after its late artistic director, Youssef Cherif Rizkallah, and has included the screening of 153 films from 63 countries.
The closing ceremony will not include artistic performances, but will mainly be focusing on honours and awards. English actor Nathalie Emmanuel, who played Missandei in the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones, will make “a special appearance,” as announced by ceremony director Hisham Fathy.
