Dr Magombeyi Says Zimbabwean Health System Is “A Silent Genocide”

Last updated on September 11th, 2021 at 03:18 pm

The Acting President of the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association, Dr Peter Magombeyi has described the country’s health system as a silent genocide as several people continue to die in hospitals.

He said that scores of patients are dying in public hospitals since there inadequate resources to save their lives. Speaking to Maverick Citizen, Magombeyi said:

Imagine being in a hospital that accepts all referrals, and then not having things as simple as gloves or bandages. Patients have to buy and bring their own test tubes.

Magombeyi is in South Africa where he is receiving medical attention for an undisclosed ailment which allegedly came after his abduction for spearheading a doctors’ strike over unsustainable salaries and poor working conditions.

This Tuesday marks the 51 days since the health caregivers embarked on industrial action leaving only a few doctors “on call to attend to life-threatening cases.”
