Egun: Most Watched Nollywood Movie At The Nigerian Cinemas

Egun, a new Nigerian horror film produced by Ife Olujuyige, has become the most watched Nollywood film at Nigerian cinemas. The film hit theaters nationwide on November 17, 2023. The Nollywood film recorded a total gross of ₦6,116,200 from November 17 to 19, 2023. 

According to the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria, the film is currently showing across cinemas nationwide. The film rose to the top three on the box office collection charts. 

The film was originally supposed to release on November 10, 2023. However, the release date was shifted to November 17, 2023. Despite the change in release date, Egun became the most-watched Nigerian movie in theaters.

Egun is produced by Ife Olujuigbe, award-winning movie producer and screenwriter. It is directed by Carmen Ike Okoro, a famous Nigerian director. Egun is a story about a corporate culture and office friends with a dash of horror. The corporate office turns into chaos when the employees receive an unexpected package containing juju, which is an object infused with magical power. Whoever sees the contents of the box are bound to die. The employees in the office fight against each other for survival.

The Nigerian horror film stars Gideon Okeke, Omowunmi Dada, Uzor Arukwe, Femi Jacobs, Bolaji Ogunmola, Adedimeji Lateef, Yekini Ibrahim, Olarotimi Fakunle, Vee Iye, Tomike Adeoye, Ejiro Onajaife, Taye Arimoro, and Darasimi Nadi.

The office horror film became successful after collaboration between Singularity Media, Film Trybe, and Film One. 

Top films at Nigerian box office

The Hunger Games — an American adventure/action film, which is distributed by Lionsgate and produced by Nina Jacobson and Jon Kilik — is the most successful film at the box office. At the top of the chart is the fifth installment of the Hunger Games series and a prequel to The Hunger Games (2012). The film earned a total gross of ₦20,699,038 over the weekend. 

Adire movie earned a weekend gain of ₦3.6 million and a total gross of ₦24, 245, 150 since its debut on November 3, 2023, in Nigeria.
