Egypt star Amr Warda has been kicked out of their Africa Cup of Nations squad over sexual harassment towards a string of women. The 25-year-old PAOK midfielder who appeared as a substitute during the hosts’ 1-0 victory over Zimbabwe on Friday, will play no further part in his home tournament after the Egyptian FA announced he had been dismissed for disciplinary reasons.
Warda was sent packing from the tournament after Egyptian-British model Merhan Keller accused him of sexual harassment and revealed she received inappropriate and aggressive messages from the football star.
A statement by the Egypt Football Federation on Twitter handle read: “The head of the Egyptian Football Federation, Hani Abu Reda, has decided to dismiss Amr Warda from the team’s camp after consulting with the team’s technical and administrative staff.
“Warda who has 29 caps to his name featured in Egypt was not in the team as Mohamed Salah scored his first goal of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations to help hosts to a 2-0 win over Democratic Republic of Congo which guaranteed them a place in the knockout stages along with Super Eagles.
