European Parliament lifts immunity from Charles Puigdemont and two Catalan members

According to media reports, the European Parliament has voted to lift the immunity of Carles Puigdemont and two other members of the Catalan administration in Spain. Carles Puigdemont, former prime minister of Catalonia, led an illegal attempt to secede from Spain in 2017.

Reports say a referendum was held on Monday but was officially announced on Tuesday, with 400 European lawmakers supporting the lifting of parliamentary immunity in Puigdemont, while 248 rejected it and 45 abstained. The vote is set to take effect after it is issued, and the political immunity of these officials accused of acting against the unity of Spain has been lost.

European lawmakers also lifted immunity from former Catalan health minister Toni Comin and former regional education minister Clara Ponsati. The Spanish Supreme Court has indicted former Catalan Education Minister Ponsatí on charges of sedition.
