FIFA Club World Cup Trophy Lands in Africa as Tournament Hype Builds

The new FIFA Club World Cup trophy arrived on African land as part of the tournament’s preparations just months before African clubs compete against the world’s finest at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

Between June 14 and July 13th 2025, 32 clubs will feature in the expanded club football league which will feature four tough African teams: Al Ahly SC (Egypt), Espérance Sportive de Tunis (Tunisia), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) and Wydad AC (Morocco).

Mamelodi Sundowns former African champions hosted the trophy’s first stop in Africa on Thursday, January 8th when it was received by club chairman Tlhopie Motsepe, the technical team and the entire squad.

“There is a saying in isiZulu (South African native language) that goes one hand, washes the other. So just as this trophy is going to inspire many South Africans and Africans through the prestige that it has and the incredible people that have had it in the past, we also will ensure that as it moves with the spirit of Africa,” said the chairman.

Sundowns will be competing in their second FIFA World Cup following their debut in Japan in 2026. The South Africans are in a challenging Group F with German powerhouse Borussia Dortmund, Brazilian Fluminense FC and Korean Ulsan HD.
