france to send naval aid to gaza hospitals amid the escalating conflict
In response to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, President Emmanuel Macron of France declared a significant humanitarian initiative. France is set to send a navy vessel to Gaza within the next 48 hours with the primary objective of providing essential support to Gaza’s strained hospital facilities. Macron disclosed this decision during a joint press conference with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Cairo.
In addition to deploying the naval vessel, France will also dispatch an aircraft loaded with vital medical supplies to Egypt. Egypt will play a pivotal role in facilitating the transfer of these crucial items into the besieged Palestinian region, where medical resources are critically needed.
The press conference in Cairo took place in the midst of escalating hostilities between Israel and Hamas. President al-Sisi emphasized the pressing need to prevent a ground invasion of the Gaza Strip, stressing the inevitability of severe civilian casualties that would result from such an assault. He revealed that the conflict had already claimed the lives of over 6,000 civilians, with a devastatingly high number of casualties among children.
Emmanuel Macron’s visit to the Middle East follows his recent stop in Israel, where he expressed support for the Israeli military’s retaliatory strikes against Hamas. Significant changes in the region’s ongoing tensions have occurred during the tour. On October 7, Hamas militants launched a deadly attack on southern Israel, resulting in more than 1,400 casualties, a majority of whom were civilians, according to Israeli police. The attack specifically targeted the southern regions of Israel.
In the weeks following the initial attack, an intense Israeli bombing campaign in Gaza, controlled by Hamas, has led to a significant loss of life, with over 6,500 reported fatalities, the majority of whom were civilians, as per the Palestinian territory’s health ministry, under the administration of Hamas. Macron’s journey also included a visit to the West Bank, currently under Israeli occupation, where he engaged in discussions with Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the Palestinian Authority.
