Global Driving Safety Report: South Africa Ranks Last, Norway Safest

The U.S.-based driver training company Zutobi analyzed road safety worldwide and found South Africa stays last in driving danger since its first ranking.

South Africa kept its position as the last ranked country on the safety indicators list for driving safety two years running according to data in the comprehensive annual report.

India stands among the five biggest risks for drivers since it landed at spot number 49 in the safety ranking system. Many people would be shocked to learn that the United States ranks 51st and stands as the third most dangerous country for drivers.

For four years running Norway held its position as the safest driving nation in the world by keeping up its exceptional standards of road safety.

The analysis tracked worldwide improvements by showing that road traffic fatalities dropped from 8.9 deaths to 6.3 deaths per 100,000 citizens since the earlier evaluation. The research showed minor changes did not happen in speed limit laws and blood alcohol tolerance policies across different countries.The low quality of traffic enforcement became the largest barrier to South Africa’s good results. According to Alisha Chinnah from Johannesburg she explains that South Africa has traffic laws but the lack of officer enforcement because officers take bribes is widespread talk during driving discussions. The research proves that traffic regulations need proper enforcement to make roads safer everywhere.
