How Tanzanians Responding to Marburg Virus as the Fear Rise

Tanzania denies a possible deadly Marburg virus epidemic. Reports of a possible breakout of the fatal Marburg disease in Tanzania’s northwest were refuted on Thursday. But the World Health Organization stated Tuesday that eight of the afflicted people had passed away and that nine potential cases had been reported in the isolated Kagera district last week.

Jenista Mhagama, Tanzania’s health minister stated that all suspected cases tested negative for the Ebola like virus following sample testing. As a precaution, she said that the nation has bolstered its illness monitoring and surveillance systems.

Given that Kagera serves as a transit point to other countries, the WHO has warned that there was a “high” chance of the suspected virus spreading throughout the area. The Marburg virus like Ebola starts in fruit bats.
