Huawei technology park opens up in Angola

Angola opened a technology park with funding estimated at $60 million from the Chinese multinational Huawei to support the development of professionals in the country and other African countries.

The complex, which has cutting-edge machinery, is situated in the Talatona township of Luanda and was formally opened by President Joo Lourenço.

At the event, Chen Lei, the transnational manager for sub-Saharan Africa, made note of the shared desire to make Angola a regional hub for the promotion of the digital economy by putting in place infrastructure and developing talent.

The Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology, and Social Communication, Mário de Oliveira, on the other hand, commended Huawei for its 20-year history of supporting national development and the Monday agreement to train tens of thousands of young people.

The declaration states that between now and 2027, 10,000 technicians would be trained in the widest range of telecommunications and information technology disciplines.

The staff would be trained academically and practically at Huawei’s new Talatona facility as well as at its locations in China and South Africa, the minister stated.

Angola is currently China’s second-largest commercial partner in Africa, and the two countries’ economic connections have a promising future, as well as a significant complementarity, as he pointed out.

Following those constructed in Egypt and South Africa, the new Talatona infrastructure is Huawei’s third technology park in Africa.

Huawei was established in 1987 and is now a major player in the field of smart devices and ICT infrastructure. Serving more than three billion people worldwide, we employ around 195,000 people and operate in more than 170 nations and areas.

“The goal of Huawei is to create a fully connected, intelligent world by bringing digital technology to every individual, home, and organisation. To achieve this, we will push for widespread connectivity and advocate for open access to networks to lay the groundwork for an intelligent world; we will also provide diversified computing power to deliver ubiquitous cloud and intelligence; we will build robust digital platforms to assist all industries and organisations in becoming more agile, efficient, and dynamic; and we will redefine user experience with AI, offering consumers a more personalised and intelligent experience across all scenarios, including home, telecommunications, and other environments.,” the company states.
