In Cameroon, a gunman kills seven people

On Monday, a lone gunman opened fire on residents of four villages located in the northeastern region of Cameroon, resulting in the deaths of seven people and the serious injuries of two more, according to statements made by the local prefect and state television on Thursday (June 17). According to the statement, the “lone shooter, holding an AK47 type weapon and four magazines loaded on both sides of his belt, began firing on the innocent inhabitants” of four villages in the locality of Belel, which is in the Adamaoua region.

It has not yet been determined what his reasons are for doing what he is doing. According to the prefect, “seven people were killed and two were seriously injured” as a result of the attacks. Cameroon Radio-Television (CRTV), which is run by the government, confirmed this number. It said that four of the victims died at the scene of the accident and that three of them needed medical care at a hospital.

According to CRTV, the perpetrator of the shooting got away and is currently “untraceable.” The immaculate Awounfac Alienou assured her that the security forces were mobilized to find him but asked the population to “mobilize massively in self-defense organizations to hunt him down.”

Adamaoua, which is located on the border between the Central African Republic and Chad, used to be a common place for kidnappings with subsequent requests for ransom in the past. Most people think that these kidnappings are done by criminal groups from Chad, the Central African Republic, and northern Cameroon, even though the number of kidnappings has been going down.

More than two years ago, the military started a campaign to stop kidnappings. So far, 36 weapons of war and the safe release of 46 hostages have come from this campaign.
