Joint Statement on Sudan Talks Highlights UAE’s Leadership in Humanitarian Aid

During the continuous Sudan peace negotiations in Switzerland, a joint statement was made by the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Switzerland, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the African Union, and the United Nations in a major turnabout. The comment underlined the urgency of addressing the humanitarian situation in Sudan and the need of shielding people from continuous conflict.

The delegations—including UAE representatives—engaged the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) during these talks to underline the urgent humanitarian needs of the Sudanese people. The delegations underlined the need of following international humanitarian law and carrying out the obligations promised under the Jeddah Declaration. These pledges cover the protection of people, the defense of civilian infrastructure including hospitals and schools, and the need of leaving these areas for their intended use.

Particularly in areas under RSF control, the negotiations concentrated mostly on the need to let workers and humanitarian supplies to pass unhinderedly. It was underlined that the path from Gedaref via Wad Medani and Sennar is absolutely vital for getting relief to millions of Sudanese people in need. The RSF was advised to expand access along this path, particularly at the Sennar junction, which would perhaps help up to 12 million people spread over several states.

The joint statement also honored the RSF’s attendance at the negotiations for their eagerness to move toward bettering the humanitarian conditions. This covers their willingness to let humanitarian actors pass across the Adre crossing, a vital path for aid delivery. Once movements start across this corridor, the delegates underlined the imperative of the RSF guaranteeing secure and unfettered access for humanitarian cargo and workers.

Especially appreciating the UAE’s worldwide leadership in humanitarian aid, the United Nations and other international agencies hailed the nation’s participation in these talks. The UAE’s proactive participation in the Sudan peace negotiations is evidence of its leadership in handling crises in areas under war and its dedication to world humanitarian endeavors.

The UAE’s assistance will surely remain crucial in determining the course of Sudan as the whole community observes its changes.
