Tourism Minister Rebecca Miano recently highlighted that Kenya tourism sector earnings are expected to jump to 650 billion shillings ($5 billion) this year – compared to the 452.2 billion shillings recorded last year.
Miano noted that last year’s earnings are up 20% compared to a year earlier. The tourism industry – in addition to tea exports and remittances – represents some of the major foreign exchange earners of Kenya, according to a report in Reuters.
The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics has highlighted that international arrivals increased 15% last year compared to the year before. The country is famous for its blend of natural beauty, cultural richness and strategic marketing.
But Kenya has also been facing stiff competition from regional players. Countries such as Tanzania are putting a lot of effort into their tourism market. To maintain its edge, Kenya needs to amplify its offerings – from the great safaris to dynamic urban experiences.
