On Last Friday Kithure Kindiki was again inaugurated as Kenya’s new deputypresident.Kindiki Kithure took office on Friday following a vibrant event in Nairobi, the capital, that wasattended by a number of visitors, including government officials and Western envoys.Kindiki was a strong candidate as Ruto’s running mate in the 2022 election and was namedinterior minister in September of that year. The 52-year-old former law professor was a senatorfrom the vote-rich Mount Kenya region before taking on the role of interior minister.Despite an ongoing legal battle challenging the impeachment of former deputy president RigathiGachagua, the court cleared his swearing-in on Thursday after lifting the orders that hadpostponed it.Gachagua is arguing against the impeachment at Nairobi’s High Court, claiming that thehearings were unjust and the charges are baseless.Ethnic tensions and support for anti-government demonstrations increased on October 17,when a vote of more than two-thirds of lawmakers impeached and removed the former deputypresident from office on corruption accusations. The following day, Kindiki was nominated byPresident William Ruto for the deputy position.
