Laura Wolvaardt Calls for More Women’s Test Matches

South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt wants cricket authorities to arrange more Test matches for women because Test cricket represents the highest level of the sport.

During the last 20 years Test cricket for women teams only appeared 26 times with 12 series between England and Australia. The available Test matches for women took place between India, South Africa and the Netherlands whereas established Test-playing countries like West Indies, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka remained inactive. The New Zealand Women’s Cricket Team stopped playing Tests in 2004 even though their men’s team won the first World Test Championship in 2021.

Tester matches stay undisputed because of this lack of games according to Wolvaardt from Reuters. Some New Zealand players show excellent potential for Test cricket demands. I hope the authorities will arrange more Test matches in the future. This format leads all others as a result I want to see more Test games added to the schedule.

Wolvaardt entered Test cricket during 2022 and achieved the unheard-of distinction of scoring centuries across all international games before two other players.

She mentioned the positive role played by Women’s Premier League and Women’s Big Bash League in building women’s cricket across leagues. South Africa requires its own national league to help make up the distance between international teams.
