The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, said that lunatics have taken over politics in Nigeria. He said that 70 per cent of Nigerian politicians have no business in the leadership of Nigeria and they should be kicked out of power in the 2023 general elections.
Obi described politics in Nigeria as a case where lunatics have taken over the asylum. He said on Sunday at the Men of Valour conference, “We can’t allow this gangsterism to continue.” He also urged Nigerians to take back their country from lunatics.
The conference with the theme “Navigating the corridors of power, the church, and the politics” was organised by the Revival House of International Church (RHOGIC) in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.
The Nigerian presidential election will be held on 25 February 2023 to elect the President and Vice President. Insecurity has been a major challenge to the Nigerian government in recent years. The country needs to tackle poverty, insecurity, violence, hunger and unemployment.
Peter Obi will face still competition in the election from former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who stands for the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of All Progressives Congress.
A National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, will also run for the presidency in Nigeria’s general election. Last week, Tinubu defeated 13 other candidates in the APC primaries. He won 1,271 APC delegates’ votes to run for the presidential election.
Earlier, voters in Nigeria’s Ekiti state voted on Saturday to elect a new governor. According to Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the southwestern state had 988,923 registered voters of which almost 40 per cent were aged 18 to 34.
Political parties see the election in Ekiti state as a test runs for the 2023 presidential election.
