The man who confessed to killing a woman in a video that went viral on social networks was found hanging from a tree on Wednesday morning in the Malangeni district of Umzinto, a short distance from where he had killed the woman.
KZN Saps spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda said police had responded to reports of a murder on a gravel road in the Malangeni area of Umzinto, where the body of a 25-year-old woman was found lying in the middle of the road.
Netshiunda said reports indicate that the suspect went to collect the woman, who was his girlfriend, from her home. It is suspected that the two had a domestic altercation, which escalated into murder.
The suspect’s vehicle was found abandoned below the road where the woman’s body lay. The car was stained with blood and a manhunt was quickly launched.
The man has been identified as Sbusiso Lawrence, who on Tuesday evening shared a video that has gone viral, in which he confessed to killing his girlfriend. The video appears to have been filmed at the scene of the crime. In the video, he attempts to justify why he killed her, saying that she left him after he tried to treat her well, and stating his intention to obtain compensation from the Road Accident Fund (RAF).
