Following weeks of speculation, the Economic Freedom Fighters reported that Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, their former Member of Parliament has resigned. Along with him another MP Yazini Tetyana announced her resignation from Parliament raising questions about the future of both prominent personalities in South Africa’s political landscape.
The EFF said on Thursday that both Ndlozi and Tetyana had asked to be relieved of their parliamentary duties marking the end of an era for the duo who had been important in the party’s participation in the National Assembly since its formation.
The party’s statement read, “The EFF has received the voluntary resignation of Fighter Yazini Tetyana and Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi as representatives of the EFF in the Parliament of South Africa. The EFF has accepted the respective voluntary requests to be released from deployment of the two fighters, who have diligently served the organisation in their respective deployments.”
The news comes after weeks of speculation about Ndlozi’s position inside the EFF particularly his apparently tense relationship with party leader Julius Malema. Ndlozi’s likely resignation is the result of mounting tensions within the party hierarchy which have been exacerbated by his recent exclusion from the upcoming elective conference. This omission has sparked speculation of a probable transfer to the uMkhonto weSizwe Party as allies rally in his support.
