A Kaizer Chiefs midfielder has turned down one of the club’s contract offers.
According to various sources, George Maluleka and Chiefs are currently still locked in negotiations for a new deal, with the source since revealing that the midfielder turned down one of the club’s latest offers.
Maluleka’s current deal with Amakhosi will come to an end on June 30 this year and while the club has since wrapped up several other contract extensions, the 31-year-old is yet to sign on the dotted line.
However, according to a source in the know, Maluleka has since turned down one of Chiefs’ freshest offers and has explained why.
The source revealed that while the two parties have agreed financial terms in principle, Amakhosi are offering the player a short-term deal while Maluleka is keen on a long-term contract.
Maluleka wants to remain at Chiefs beyond the current season, although it remains to be seen whether the club will meet his demands.
Chiefs head coach, Ernst Middendorp recently opened up about Maluleka’s contract situation saying that he hopes it gets wrapped up soon.
“I think one of the most important parameter to how we are dealing with the season is that we have consistency in terms of our set-up and core players. For us, it is each and everybody, therefore I hope that George’s contract is wrapped up as quick as possible and get the final discussions done, he is very crucial for Kaizer Chiefs – a number of players,” he said.
