Mohamed Beavogui, a development expert, has been named Prime Minister by the Guinean junta.

Guinea Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, who took power in Guinea after a military coup on September 5, named development veteran Mohamed Beavogui as prime minister in a proclamation read on national television on Wednesday. Beavogui, 68, has a distinguished career with international organizations such as the United Nations, but no experience in the national government, potentially putting him at odds with Guinea’s current political infighting.

The son of a diplomat and an engineering graduate, he specializes in agricultural development funding and risk management. Doumbouya promised to keep the country’s international commitments while transitioning to civilian rule when he was sworn in as interim president earlier this month. He led the overthrow of President Alpha Conde on September 5. On October 1, Supreme Court President Mamadou Sylla swore in Doumbouya for an indefinite transition period.
