MTN Group and Airtel Africa Forge Network Sharing Pact in African Markets

Two mobile telecom leaders, MTN Group and Airtel Africa, joined forces to create a new digital infrastructure system throughout African nations, as reported by Reuters. The two companies formed their strategic partnership on Wednesday, and they started by sharing network infrastructure in Uganda and Nigeria with future potential expansion across the area.

Through this partnership both companies work together to solve the high costs of building networks in different technological business sectors. Through joint mobile phone network use these companies plan to decrease running costs and build greater market value. Both Ralph Mupita of MTN Group and Sunil Taldar of Airtel Africa believe that regulatory rules must support resource sharing for businesses to succeed.

This unique collaboration lets the partners build networks faster in underserved areas at lower setup expenses. The companies state their partnership will not stop them from working with other mobile operators in their separate markets.
