The nation’s re-visitation of the French-talking world comes following four years of suspension, a result of the socio-political emergency inside the country since 2015 — conceived of the desire of previous President Pierre Nkurunziza to look for a third term.

As declared by the agent of Burundi to the Francophonie, Ernest Niyokindi, the choice was taken during the 112th meeting of the Permanent Council of the Francophonie (CPF), held practically on November 4 and 5 2020.

This is a welcome development particularly for french speaking countries, ever since the election in the country, Burundi has been on an upward trajectory despite the lose of the former president. The current president has done exceptionally well as regards good governance.
