NEWS: Guinea begins the distribution of voting cards ahead of the elections in October

Last updated on September 11th, 2021 at 08:24 am

Distribution of balloting cards started on Saturday, in what will be one of the most watched elections in Western Africa. In key opposition neighbourhoods, some have argued the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) had voluntarly left them off the lists.

Far from the truth for the commission. “Among Those who did not come back, many of them had incomplete information.

So when we finished doing the integration, everyone who didn’t have all the critical records and documents had been put aside”, explains Mamadou Baldé, technical assistant of the CENI (independent country wide electoral commission).

12 candidates will be walking for president, amongst which contemporary head of nation Alpha Condé. Many hope the election will go down smoothly and besides any violent outbursts.

“I sense the election is going to go well, we have already started out the campaign and we desire our candidate to win the presidential election, Insha’Allah!” says scholar Abdoulaye Diallo, who simply picked up his voting card.

The Guinean political scene was once shaken up in late August when modern president Alpha Condé stated he woul officially run for a third term. In total over 5 million balloting cards should be handed out by the CENI.

Voters will have till October 18th, the date of the vote, to accumulate their cards.
