Nigeria: Government Set To Overhaul Aviation Policies

The Rector of International Aviation College, Ilorin and former appearing Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Benedict Adeyileka has stated two key methods the federal authorities can revamp the aviation industry are to overhaul the insurance policies that guide the quarter and to make sure the implementation of those policies.

Adeyileka in an interview with THISDAY said the Bilateral Air Service Agreements (BASA) and other policies formulated in the past regarded to have given overseas airlines gain in their operations into the country, including that currently policies brought by authorities underneath the modern administration are opening to guard domestic airlines.

He therefore entreated authorities to overhaul the old, existing policies to similarly protect home operators in order to assist the industry grow and create more jobs for the citizens.

“Policy is very important in transferring the aviation enterprise forward. The Minister of Aviation and the Director-General of NCAA have the strength to overhaul coverage regulations.

We had coverage method on cabotage, empowerment of Nigerian airways and General Aviation amongst others, but as far as I am concerned, there were true policies we had in 2012 or 2013.

“I understand I had to go and protect some of those insurance policies in public hearing at the National Assembly when I was appearing Director General of NCAA.

There are a lot of policies we can put in vicinity to encourage the neighborhood carriers,” he said.

Adeyileka who is aircraft engineer stated Nigerian carriers are now not supposed to pay obligations on aircraft spares, pronouncing that if there is a standing coverage on that, the Minister of Aviation would now not be reverting to Customs each and every year to renew waivers on tariffs on plane and spares importation.
