Former American football star O.J. Simpson, who passed away last week at his Las Vegas home at the age of 76, was cremated on Wednesday, according to his estate’s lawyer, Malcolm LaVergne. The private ceremony took place at Palm Mortuary in downtown Las Vegas, with LaVergne and others in attendance.
LaVergne confirmed the cremation, stating that the ashes would be given to Simpson’s children to fulfill their father’s wishes. He further noted that there are no plans for a public commemoration of Simpson’s passing.
Simpson had been battling prostate cancer since being diagnosed last year. LaVergne revealed that he visited Simpson shortly before Easter and described him as awake, alert, and relaxed. However, in the final days, Simpson’s health deteriorated, with him having little strength and primarily focusing on watching a golf tournament on television.
Simpson’s surviving adult children from his first marriage, Arnelle Simpson (55) and Jason Simpson (53), as well as his children from his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson, Sydney Simpson (38) and Justin Simpson (35), will inherit his estate. LaVergne acknowledged the challenges they face as the children of one of the world’s most famous and controversial figures.
Regarding the value of Simpson’s assets, LaVergne stated that he is currently working to determine their worth. He clarified that Simpson did not own a home in the states where he resided, including Nevada, California, and Florida.
O.J. Simpson gained fame as a record-breaking running back in the NFL before pursuing a career in film, sports broadcasting, and public relations.
