Career

Despite started hustling at an early age, trading whatever he could to survive. He sells music cassettes, baby bottles, padlocks and other goods in Dunkwa-Offinso, in the central region of Ghana.

Life in his village was not lucrative, so Despite emigrated to Lagos, Nigeria, after many years of struggle, in search of greener pastures.

His journey was cut short in 1983, however, when he was forced to flee Nigeria due to political unrest in the country. He came back to Ghana with a dream and a chainsaw.

He started selling cassettes before diversifying into broadcasting, setting up an Akan-language radio station, Peace FM, in 1999 at Mile 7 Junction. The station became the country’s favourite because it used the Akan language in its broadcasts, as opposed to the Queen’s language. It was the beginning of his media empire and financial breakthrough.

He is also co-founder and vice-chairman of Best Point Savings and Loans Ltd, a highly regarded financial institution in the country.
