Popular DRC Musician Delcat Idengo Killed While Filming Music Video in Goma

Delphin Katembo Vinywasiki popularly known as Delcat Idengo is a leading musician from the DRC celebrated for his revolutionary songs attacking both the government and the rebel groups. His music resonated with many, positioning him as one of the leading personalities in the cultural and political arena of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Idengo met a very sad death on Thursday, February 13th  2025 in Turunga, North Kivu province near Goma. Reports indicate that the artist was shot indeed during the filming of a music video for a song that he intended to finish and release that very night. The details surrounding his death are unclear though witnesses say he was attacked while at work on his art.

The discography of Idengo is revolutionary with his penultimate release just ten days prior to his death addressing pertinent political issues in the region. His influence as a prominent voice for exposing injustice and oppression in society resulted in his imprisonment for allegedly inciting public disorder. He was one of those who escaped from Goma prison on January 27th 2025 during the M23 rebels incursion into the city.

With the loss of Delcat Idengo, a wave of grief has washed over the community especially for those who drew comfort and inspiration from his protest messages for change.
