Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi arrived on Saturday morning at the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa to participate in the 33rd regular African Union summit to be held on February 9 and 10.

Under the slogan “Silencing the Guns: Creating Conducive Conditions for Africa’s Development”, the summit will be attended by 31 presidents, four Prime Ministers, seven foreign ministers and three deputy heads of African presidents, in addition to the UN’s Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and prime ministers from Canada and Norway.

President Sisi will deliver a speech at the summit in which he will review achievements made on the African continent during Egypt’s presidency of the union, which started in February 2019, including the African Continental Free Trade Area which came into effect on May 30 2019.

Sisi will chair the closed session on Sunday to discuss challenges facing the African continent. He will also hold discussions with leaders of African countries on ways to enhance bilateral relations in all areas, and discuss African and regional issues of common concern.
