Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is angry with the Egyptian FA after his country football association failed to vote for him in FIFA’s Best Awards last Monday night in Milan.
The 27-year-old forward came fourth in the voting for the world player of the year award, behind the winner Lionel Messi, club teammate Virgil Van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo despite winning 2019 UEFA Champions League and joint Premier League golden boot alongside African compatriot of Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last season.
According to Daily Mail claims that Egypt’s captain Ahmed Elmohamady and Olympic team coach Shawky Ghareeb both voted for Salah, but it was not registered in the final count, while a vote from his country journalist Hany Danial was counted as he picked Sadio Mane and Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of former Chelsea and Roma winger.
However, Liverpool forward has removed all reference to playing for his country from his social media accounts which have growing fears back in his homeland that he will sever ties with the national team amid this latest controversy.
Salah took to Twitter by, posting an image of his face over the country’s flag with the caption: “No matter how they try to change my love for you and your people they will not…”

African Player of the Year expressed anger with the Egyptian FA ahead of the World Cup in Russia last year after he was seemingly used as a political pawn by having to pose for a photo-op with Chechnya leader Ramzan Kadyrov.
