Senegal midfielder Idrissa Gueye sealed £30 million moves to Paris Saint-Germain from Everton.
The 29-year-old Dakar-born signed a four-year deal with the French champions until 2023 after the Toffees rejected a £21.5m offer from Ligue 1 giant in January and manager Marco Silva had hoped to keep the African star at Goodison Park this season but the player was determined to switch to Le Parc des Princes.
Gueye joined Everton from Aston Villa for around £7m in 2016 and played 108 times and scoring four goals in the process but the midfielder attempted more tackles last season than any other players in the Premier League where he won 89 of his 142 tackles.
Former Lille man speaking to the club’s official website on the move to Paris, though, will give him the chance to play in the Champions League and he insists he’s excited to be joining the PSG project.
“I’m immensely proud to sign for Paris Saint-Germain,”
“After focussing on the AFCON with Senegal, I wanted to give a new boost to my club career by joining Paris Saint-Germain, one of the most structured and ambitious sports projects in Europe.
“I’d like to thank the directors, the coach and his staff for the confidence they have shown in me. I will do everything to justify the faith they have shown in me and to integrate into this talented squad.
“And of course I can’t wait to take in the amazing atmosphere of the Parc des Princes, which impressed me during my first seasons in France!”
Gueye will become PSG sixth major signing of the summer, having also brought in Pablo Sarabia from Sevilla, Marcin Bulka from Chelsea, Mitchel Bakker from Ajax and Abdou Diallo from Borussia Dortmund.
