The cabinet of the Federal Government of Somalia convened a special meeting this evening,chaired by Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre, to address crucial issues concerning theregional state of Jubbaland. The meeting resulted in a landmark resolution on the legality ofthe recent electoral processes in the region.The Cabinet’s deliberations were guided by the country’s interim constitution, in particularArticles 4, 99 and 100, as well as Law No. 24, which amends certain constitutional articles.The Cabinet announced crucial decisions, stating that the selection of members of the Houseof Representatives and the election of former Jubbaland leader Ahmed Mohamed Islaan(Ahmed Madoobe) were conducted in violation of national laws, particularly Law No. 24issued in March 2024.The Council of Ministers stated unequivocally that all actions related to the illegal electionsin Jubbaland, including the appointment of the electoral commission, were not in accordancewith the country’s legal framework.The Prime Minister, Hamse Abdi Barre, stressed the importance of adhering to the legal andconstitutional provisions that govern the nation. ‘Our commitment to the rule of law is firm.The measures taken today reflect our determination to uphold democratic principles andensure that all electoral processes are conducted in accordance with the law,’ he said.The resolution marks a decisive turning point for Jubbaland and the wider political landscapeof Somalia.
