South Africa Fuel Prices Cuts Bring Relief

Starting April 2, South African drivers will get lower costs when filling their tanks as fuel prices decrease for all gas and diesel types according to unaudited CEF data.

Based on latest estimates petrol types 93 Unleaded receive a drop of 64 cents and 95 Unleaded experiences a decrease of 78 cents in price per liter. Diesel drivers will receive the most savings as retail prices of both 500ppm and 50ppm diesel will decrease by 90 cents and 92 cents respectively.

Motorists from Gauteng will pay about R21.45 for 93 Unleaded and R21.56 for 95 Unleaded with the new pricing system. Users along the coast will need to pay R20.77 per liter. Regardless of location diesel fuel will drop to R18.53 cents at coastal regions and R19.29 inland. The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy will disclose new April fuel rates early this week.

Louder international fuel prices cause the lower petrol prices which give customers back 52 to 66 cents per liter and bring power reduction to 80 cents for diesel. The slight improvement in the currency values brought 12 more savings to the entire result.

The government extends its three-year habit of not boosting fuel taxes in its typical April adjustment phase for consumers’ advantage. Both petrol and diesel fuels will face a tiny tax hike of three cents under this decision.
