Sports: Highlands Park boss places hefty price tag on Shalulile

Namibian attacker Peter Shalulile enjoyed a decent goal-scoring run in his second top-flight season at Highlands Park, and won’t leave the club for cheap, according to chairman Larry Brookstone.

The Lions of the North boss was on Power987 Sport on Friday, where he revealed the price tag he’s placed on the player, who helped the club to promotion in 2018 before registering 15 goals across competitions in his second season in South Africa’s elite league.

Brookstone says he rates the player higher than 2017/18 PSL Player of the Season, who was bought for a reported R50 million from Mamelodi Sundowns by English outfit Brighton and Hove Albion.

Since being a pivotal part of Highlands’ return to the big time in 2018, Shalulile has been linked with the country’s “big three” – Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

However, the R30 million price tag – plus the fact that his contract with the Thembisa-based outfit ends in 2023 – has complicated his prospects of a move.

In an interview with KnowAfrika, the 26-year-old said he was eyeing a move outside the continent, but expressed a special attachment to his current club.

Shalulile featured for Namibia in the recent Africa Cup of Nations, where he made three starts, including one in the 1-0 group-stage defeat to South Africa.

He has a total of 12 international caps, where he has found the net three times.
