Sudan: At least 8 people die in floods

At least eight people died in flooding after heavy rains in the city of Kassala in japanese Sudan, nearby media said Thursday. 

Ahmad Khalil, deputy administrative head of Kassala and Aroma towns, announced that 23 villages have been affected by means of floods.

Noting that 8,567 people have been affected by the disaster, Khalil underlined that urgent resource must be provided to the region.

Earlier in August, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that heaps of homes had been destroyed and essential infrastructure broken due to riverine and flash floods after heavy rains across giant parts of Sudan.

OCHA said the catastrophe forced the displacement of hundreds of people, including the Khartoum, Blue Nile and River Nile areas have been the worst-hit.
