Later on Tuesday, a Russian-built Sudanese military plane crashed in a residential neighbourhood in Omdurman, killing at least 46 people and injuring 10 others. The incident is making global headlines.
The exact cause of the crash is still unclear. But it has been reported that the incident is likely because of a technical malfunction. The health ministry said that emergency teams rushed those injured, including children, to a nearby hospital.
Sudan is facing a brutal humanitarian crisis – in fact, one of the largest on the planet today. Since 2023, the Sudanese armed forces and the paramilitary RSF have been engaged in a tough battle. The conflict has already killed tens of thousands of people.
The internal fighting has also triggered the displacement of about 12 million people. The military plane crash on Tuesday also caused outages in nearby neighbourhoods, besides damaging multiple homes. Keep an eye out for more updates.
